Mary Gwyn Bowen was born and grew up in Dyersburg, TN where she first began taking art lessons at the age of 8. Though she never stopped painting, she first obtained a degree in nursing from Excelsior College, Albany, New York.
She began her formal art education at Richland College, Dallas, TX. Richland College gave her the foundation to continue to The Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, D.C. where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors degree in 2002.
Mary Gwyn’s paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Dallas, TX, Washington, D.C. and other locations in the Eastern and Southeastern United States. Her work is in private and corporate collections.
Ms. Bowen is the recipient of a number of awards and honors. She received the Cecil Wallace Fordham Memorial Award in the Visual Arts in Dallas, TX and the Dean’s Achievement Scholarship at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. At Richland College, she was a member of the Honors Society in Literature.
Currently, Mary Gwyn is a member of The American Society of Botanical Artists (www.AmSocBotArtists.org) and The Alliance of Professional Artists (allproartists.org).
Mary Gwyn teaches The Magic of Flowers painting classes at Williamson County Parks and Recreation Centers in Franklin and Spring Hill, Tennessee. For a list of classes go to www.wcparksandrec.com. She lives and works in Franklin, TN.
