Arts in Healthcare
As an RN, I am passionate about art's role in healthcare. Healthcare Artists Together is a new department developed by me and a wonderful group of artists within the organization, Artists For Community Transformation International. Healthcare Artists Together is a non-profit vehicle to assist artists in taking their talents into the healthcare environment. We help artists develop their ideas into viable projects and seek funds and fundraising to make their projects possible. Arts benefit patients, staff and families in healthcare. We are helping to facilitate that connection.
Art in Medicine research projects:
Research is crucial to the incorporating of more art in the healthcare environment. The Art to Heart Project was a two part research project at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with the second part including the University of Florida. The Art to Heart Project studied the use of art on the rehabilitation of Post Operative Cardiovascular Surgery patients and was published in MED/SURGNursing in the September/October 2015 edition. Part Two found the art had a secondary benefit on the staff of the unit where the art was displayed.
Some exciting new projects are on the way!
